Capital and Maintenance Dredging

Project Details

INDEX Power & Energy (Unit 2) Ltd. is going to establish an Energy Hub on the bank of Kutubdia Channel and land-based facilities falls in Banshkhali Upazila of Chattogram District, Bangladesh. The proposed Kutubdia Energy Hub (KEH) will be consisting of LNG terminal, LPG terminal, LNG based power plant, LPG storage plant, LPG based power plant and oil jetty for KEH. For the reduction of transportation cost and ensure the continuous supply of raw materials (Oil, LNG and LPG) for the proposed Energy Hub, waterway is always preferable. But the present water depth (only 0.5- 3 m) in the sea shore is not sufficient for the movement of loaded vessels. For this reason, capital dredging and maintenance dredging is required from Bay of Bengal to Kutubdia Channel, Cox’s Bazar.

A volume of 23 million m3 to be considered towards capital dredging and 5 million m3 per annum towards the maintenance dredging for the purpose of this assessment. Approximate length of the proposed channel is 15 km, width is 225 m and depth up to -15 m. Dredging material disposal would be on the nearby plot of land.
